Cat Adoption Policy

It is the policy of Desert Paws Rescue (“DPR”) that all potential Cat/Kitten adopters complete a Cat Adoption Consultation Form and an interview with a DPR representative to be considered as a forever home for available cats and kittens. DPR does not accept Cat Adoption Consultation Forms for cat(s)/kitten(s) that have not yet been altered or keep “waiting lists” for cat(s)/kitten(s) that have not yet been altered. Fosters (short or long-term) may not promise or guarantee the adoption of the Desert Paws Cat(s)/Kitten(s) in their care to any individual. Completion of the application and interview process does not guarantee an adoption approval or guarantee the adoption of a particular Cat/Kitten. DPR is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the cat or kitten, based on our principles, policies, and standards.

DPR does not maintain an animal care facility and all rescued animals are cared for in volunteer foster-homes. Our volunteers make every effort, based on their availability, to follow up with applicants who have submitted online Adoption Consultation Forms throughout the week. Our weekly Saturday adoption event, at the PetSmart on on Power & Ray, is the best opportunity for us to ensure that all of our adoptable cats and kittens are in the same place at the same time. Meet’n greets do not occur within our foster homes or without a DPR representative present, which reduces our ability to perform meet’n greets outside of our scheduled Saturday adoption event.

DPR will determine the best home for each Cat/Kitten based on the application and interview process. After review of the adoption consultation form and the completion of the interview with a Desert Paws representative DPR may recommend a different Cat/Kitten that is more suitable to your household.

All adopters must acknowledge that all animals are adopted without any behavior, temperament, or health guarantees. (What we don’t know, we don’t know.) Adopters assume all risks associated with bringing a new pet home and acknowledge that their newly adopted animal may exhibit unexpected behavior, display an undesired temperament, or require expensive medical treatment for a new or pre-existing illness, injury, or condition and that DPR is not responsible or obligated to pay any expenses related the adopted animal incurred after the date of adoption.

DPR reserves the right to inquire about or examine adopted animals. If a DPR representative is not satisfied with the condition of the animal, or any agreements of the adoption contract have not been fulfilled, DPR may reclaim the animal either permanently or temporarily.

Dog Adoption Policy

It is the policy of Desert Paws Rescue that all potential dog adopters complete the Dog Adoption Consultation Form and complete an interview with an Adoption Coordinator in order to be considered as a forever home for our dogs and puppies. Completion of the application and interview process does not guarantee an adoption approval or guarantee the adoption of a particular dog or puppy. Desert Paws Rescue is a privately run, non-profit organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the dog or puppy, based on our principles, policies, and standards.

Desert Paws Rescue will determine the best home for each dog or puppy based on the application and interview process. After review of the adoption consultation form and the completion of the interview with the Adoption Coordinator, Desert Paws Rescue may recommend a different dog or puppy that is more suitable to your household.
